Core6 Environmental was retained to obtain an environmental closure for a former bulk fuel storage facility and service station located in Gibson Harbour. This project site was complex in nature based on topography, hydrogeology, and contamination.

The site sloped steeply down to the waterfront, including multiple retaining walls with significant elevation changes.

Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination was shown to have migrated offsite onto multiple adjacent properties, both privately and municipally owned.

The site also had an extensive history of environmental investigation and remediation activities.

Core6 Environmental completed a Stage 1 Preliminary Site Investigation and data gap analysis to allow a Detailed Site Investigation to be implemented, focused on addressing outstanding assessment issues.

A targeted remediation was implemented, and an existing in-situ remedial system was decommissioned, such that a Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment could be completed for the site. A key element to the project was demonstrating that groundwater would not influence drinking water quality. Ultimately, multiple Certificates of Compliance were obtained for the site.
