This complex former salvage yard site had a long history of contaminated sites work, dating back to the late 1980s. Core6 Environmental was retained to obtain site closure (Certificate of Compliance) to support redevelopment of the property as the Burnaby Auto Mall.

Core6 Environmental conducted a Stage 1 Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI) update that identified additional Areas of Potential Environmental Concern and Potential Constituents of Concern not previously assessed, allowing for the development of a comprehensive site investigation plan.

A Stage 2 PSI and Detailed Site Investigation was conducted allowing for a full understanding of the nature and extent of contaminants.

Core6 Environmental’s liaison with the British Columbia Ministry of Environment (BCENV) was key to allow for the development permit application to proceed through the Contaminated Sites Approved Professional process. Through liaison with BCENV, Core6 gained Protocol 6 approvals that were critical to project success and for providing a cost-effective management solution for the client.

Core6 Environmental was able to demonstrate that the extent of contamination was considerably less than historically thought and was addressed through completion of a Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment. Ultimately several Certificates of Compliance were obtained for the site.
